Learning Commons
Launching in Fall 2026, the Learning Commons will serve as a centralized hub for academic resources, advising, technology, and student support services designed to promote student achievement, persistence, and success. Through an integrated and student-centered approach, the Learning Commons connects students with the resources, guidance, and support needed to navigate their educational journey from enrollment through completion.
The Learning Commons provides access to computer lab spaces, collaborative study areas, academic resources, and technology support. These resources are designed to enhance student learning, provide opportunities for collaboration, and support students in achieving their academic goals.
Laptop and Calculator Loan Programs
The Learning Commons provides laptop and calculator loan programs designed to support student academic success and equitable access to essential learning tools. Through support from the Columbia-Greene Community College Foundation, students may borrow a laptop for use during the semester to assist with their academic coursework.
Students may also borrow scientific or graphing calculators for the semester based on availability and academic need. Laptop and calculator availability may vary by term. Students interested in borrowing a device should contact the Learning Commons to request information or submit a loan request for the current semester.
These services are provided at no cost to students. Students are responsible for replacement costs associated with damaged or unreturned devices. Any applicable charges will be assessed to the student’s account through the Bursar’s Office.
Advising Hub
The Advising Hub within the Learning Commons provides comprehensive academic advising and student support designed to help students identify educational goals, develop academic plans, and successfully progress toward degree completion. Advisors work collaboratively with students to provide guidance on course selection, academic planning, campus resources, and strategies for achieving academic success.
Student Success Programs
The Learning Commons houses student success initiatives that provide targeted support and resources for eligible student populations. The SUNY Reconnect Navigator supports adult learners by connecting students with enrollment services, academic resources, financial aid information, and campus supports designed to assist them in returning to and completing their education.
The SUNY ASAP Team provides comprehensive academic, personal, and financial support services to help eligible students maintain progress toward degree completion. Through proactive advising, individualized support, and connections to campus resources, the ASAP Team works with students to promote persistence and timely completion.
Wellness Lounge
The Wellness Lounge within the Learning Commons provides a welcoming and supportive space where students can access resources that promote personal well-being, belonging, and academic success. The Wellness Lounge supports the College’s commitment to holistic student development by providing opportunities for students to pause, recharge, connect with others, and access campus resources that contribute to overall wellness and success.
Accessibility Services
The Office of Accessibility Services (OAS), located within the Learning Commons, promotes an equitable and inclusive campus environment by providing guidance, resources, and reasonable academic adjustments for qualified students with disabilities. OAS is committed to fostering accessible learning environments, advancing the principles of Universal Design, and promoting disability as a component of diversity.
Students with disabilities who may require academic adjustments are encouraged to identify with the Office of Accessibility Services in a timely manner and provide appropriate documentation from a qualified professional. Academic adjustments are determined on a case-by-case, course-by-course basis in consideration of the student’s individual needs and the fundamental learning objectives of each course.
Academic adjustments may include, but are not limited to, accessibility arrangements, assistive technology, alternative formats for instructional materials, note-taking support, sign language interpretation, reduced distraction testing environments, extended testing time, and other reasonable accommodations.
Students requiring testing accommodations should contact the Office of Accessibility Services to coordinate appropriate support with the Learning Commons testing services.
Career Exploration
The Learning Commons provides access to career exploration resources, including FOCUS2, a web-based career guidance system that assists students in exploring interests, identifying potential academic majors, and making informed decisions about educational and career goals. FOCUS2 is most effective when used in partnership with academic advising and other career development resources available through the College.
Testing Services
The Learning Commons provides testing services that support student academic progression, including placement assessments, challenge examinations, and other approved testing services as determined by Admissions and Academic Advising. The Learning Commons also serves as a proctored testing location for approved make-up examinations.
Students seeking to complete a make-up examination in the Learning Commons must receive authorization from their instructor and make arrangements in advance. Testing services require scheduled appointments; walk-in testing is not available.
Students requiring extended testing time or other testing accommodations should contact the Office of Accessibility Services to coordinate appropriate support.
