Description
This is an introductory course that studies the nature of intercultural communication. Topics such as cultural communication contexts, cultural variables and values, and subcultures will all be discussed. By the end of the semester, students are expected to be more perceptive, aware, and confident communicators, both within their own culture and others.
Course Learning Outcomes
- Describe the historical and contemporary influences shaping individual and group identity involving race, class, and/or gender
- Analyze the social structures and systems of power that perpetuate oppression against a specific underprivileged group
- Analyze the past, present, and/or future social justice actions used by a specific underprivileged group in the attempt to gain access, rights, and/or equity
